Shadow, Reflection, and Perception

I stared at my reflection.
To see my eyes, I gazed into my eyes:
Infinity.
I saw my shadow linger as the dark side of me.
I looked at every pore that respired, yet flawed the smoothness of my skin.
I saw my contours shield whilst exposing negative space.
I looked at my hands.
My stare penetrated the sheerness of my flesh, to reveal the bones that inflamed.
I fixated on my hair, wavy and cheerful but as dead as my gleaming red nails.

I drew my face close to the mirror.
Nearing towards my present, and my shadow was left behind.
My breath, my sign of life befogged my image, my proof of existence.
To touch my hands, I touched onto my hands:
Revival.
I watched my lips as they unstuck, point by point,
Breath by breath,
Defined outline against the whiteness of my teeth.
The carbon eyes grew diamonds from the pupil,
Radiating into my veins.
The hands were but bones, as blood enlivened my gleaming red nails.

In Introspection, in now,
That dark side of me, left my side.
